7 Safety Tips for Night Time Curvy Workouts

We are approaching Daylight Savings Time and it’ll soon be dark by 6pm. I like it because it means cooler weather, but it also means that it’ll be dark when I’m working out. I prefer not to workout in the dark, but it’s the time that fits most of our schedules in the group.

Since many of you are curvy, professional women working a 9 to 5, you may workout in the evening too. I want to share some ways to stay safe out there so there’s one less than to worry about while exercising.

#1 Notify a trusted person when & where you’ll be exercising

I know we’re adults, but this goes without saying that someone should be aware of your whereabouts, for safety purposes. It’s the same reason we notify the US Embassy when we travel internationally. If something does happen at least there’s a starting point of where to look.

Share your route through cell phone mapping to make it easy to find you just in case you switch your route up sporadically. Switching it up is good so that no one because comfortable in learning how you move and your whereabouts. Let that person know what time you expect to finish and return home.

#2 Meet Workout Partner/Group or Trainer

It’s safer and more fun to exercise with a friend and/or group. Plus, folk think twice about approaching when they see a Trainer.

For those who are biking, hiking or running, it’s beneficial so you all can better navigate darkened routes and, if something does happen while you’re out, you will be able to help each other. I know Curvy Fit Chicks stay ready!

#3 Workout in well-lit area

As much as possible stay in well lit areas. If you must go in a darker place, make it for a short period of time.

#4 Wear reflective gear

You want to be seen from a far distance. This means wearing clothes that are brightly colored and wearing reflective clothing/gear i.e. vest or belt. This a biggie especially for runners and bikers. Now if you wanna go the extra mile, get a glow-in the dark sticker and add to your shoes. Although some sneakers and workout apparel have added measures with this in mind. You can never be too cautious.

#5 Take your cell phone

Keep your cell phone with you. Now I know I’m guilty of not exercising with mine, but it’s because I’m with a group. However, when I’m alone it is right by me. It is used to show where I am. Also, it can be used to call anyone or have them stay on the phone so anyone suspicious can hear that someone is expecting you and can hear what’s going on. Just in case you need to call for help you will have your phone.

#6 Stay observant

Stay Alert. Be very aware of your surroundings at all times. Pay attention and listen intently. This means not listening to music and especially not wearing headphones. You have got to be on your A game out there.

#7 Trust your gut

Curvy fit sis, listen to your gut feelings and trust your intuition. You know deep down how it feels when something ain’t right or looks suspicious. Believe it and use wisdom to remove yourself from the situation. Always listen to your body.

I hope these tips are helpful. Let me know how you are staying safe and getting your workouts in the dark of night.
